WHAT IS EXPRESSIVE CREATIVE THERAPY?

Expressive Creative Therapy uses a creative method of art making as an alternate way of accessing and representing your inner experiences, feelings and emotions. Through the use of various art techniques, Expressive Creative Therapy allows you to express yourself beyond the use of words and conversation. The process engages you in creativity which aims to aid discovery, focus, self-expression and resolution.

The focus is on the process of art and expression rather than the finished product. How you feel whilst making your art and what you learn about yourself are the most important aspects. It’s all about what you are expressing and how you get there.

Expressive Creative Therapy helps you find a way to a clearer mind and gives you techniques to support personal change, self-expression, relaxation and clarity. My Expressive Creative Therapy Practice is dedicated to assisting women in understanding their inner thoughts and feelings, and finding ways to achieve a more harmonious way of being.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM AN EXPRESSIVE CREATIVE THERAPY SESSION.

Expressive Creative Therapy sessions are a free flowing, explorative and therapeutic process. Focusing on inner experiences and feelings, together, we identify, develop and creatively explore your thoughts and emotions. Through the use of varied mediums such as imagery, paints, clay, collage, poetry, photography, music, movement and many other forms, we find new ways of self-expression.

The use of creative techniques introduces a different way of exploring and expressing yourself.

Initially we will work together to find out what you wish to gain from your sessions, and then explore further from there.

This provides an invitation to look at what has gone before and what to do with the information now. Through the method of visually or physically representing your thoughts, you are opened up to a new way of understanding your inner self. Expressive Creative Therapy allows emotions and experiences to surface, enabling us to view and understand them, and choose how you want to negotiate them in the future.

These sessions provide a comfortable and supported environment to assist you in giving voice to experiences and feelings not easily expressed in words. Each session is individually tailored, which gives you the opportunity to find which creative medium helps you best express yourself. You will find ways to relax and de-stress and make sense of confused thoughts. Expressing yourself through artistic and creative techniques enables you to see things from a different perspective.

Engaging in creativity in this way can help you to focus, relax and express yourself, leading to a clearer understanding and ability to make the most out of life.

As I specialised my studies on women, I have found that there are reoccurring themes when working with them. For this reason, I have focused my Expressive Creative Therapy practice on women, and assisting them in finding balance and healing. I strive to provide a supportive and nurturing environment for women to make positive changes.

The healing power of the creative process found in art making enables you to express yourself imaginatively, authentically and spontaneously. Learning to recognise and express your inner thoughts can be an empowering process and gives you the confidence to change the way you response to the challenges that life may bring. It will help you express feelings and lead to techniques of healthy coping skills and self care.
